A revered shrine to King Taksin, is located in Tak province. The
shrine and surrounding grounds are lively as people set loud firecrackers, burn incense
and pay respect. Phya Taksin, was a general during the 1700's who led the Thais in
successful battle against the Burmese. He became King in 1769 and established a capital in
Thonburi, opposite the present day capital Bangkok. Under his rule the Thais reunited and
gained control of provinces in the south and north. He was deposed and executed by
his ministers. |
